I'm going to say something controversial - but I know I am among friends here and none of us is scared of telling it like it is.
How is the constant knocking of CART really helping the waterways? It is less than 2 weeks old and some people just don't seem to want to give it a chance, which is a bit sad. I know lots of people who are genuinely excited about the move and can see real opportunities to get involved and change things for the better. Are they ALL idiots? Have they ALL had the wool pulled over their eyes? Are the contributers of NBW the ONLY people in world who are right?
Lots of people will only be happy when they see Robin Evans' head on stick but if you stop and think about it, how many ££££s would it cost the Trust to get rid of him, even if they wanted to? Doesn't it make sense for the Trustees to keep the management in place in the short term and change things gradually rather than chuck out the baby with the bathwater. If you look at the age of CART's directors, most of them are coming up for retirement anyway.
Our dear old Allan Richards seems to know everything but, with respect, I wouldn't want him put in charge of the ship.
In the words of Del Brenner "we entrust that any expectations we may have of the potential of the new waterways management are not disappointed, and that they turn over a new leaf so that our canals flourish and navigate smoothly into the future."
Maybe they can do this quicker and better if we ALL turn over a new leaf.
