That's the real price of progress Orph.  And the reason that many boaters believe it will all go downhill from now on.

This is just another good regular practice performed by the (very) old canal companies (remember the inspection launches of old) that has disappeared. It has gone, just like lengthsmen and now lock and weir keepers is following suite.  What price progress eh!
