Thanks for your help.
Generally we do not disconnect the alternator providing we are TOTALLY confident that all return paths to the battery and earth are disconnected (including any landline- forgot to mention that last time!)

Hiya I am so glad YOU came back to me I have read all of your posts with great interest, and it was your last one about security issues that made me think about welding. Would you disconnect the alternator as well as the battery's. and where are you please?.

We ALWAYS disconnect the batteries (with the isolator) making sure that engine and domestic systems are both isolated - sometimes one set is isolated on the earth (neg) and one on the pos so CHECK!

Years ago when I was working with lorries and heavy plant if welding was needed you had to disconnect the battery and alternator. Please could anyone out there tell me is this still required with "todays" electrical equipment.
This is a serious question so, no silly comments please.
