Being continuous cruisers for the past 18 months we can agree that the trend for discourteous boating is erring towards the privateers.

The Birmingham canals are notoriously difficult from debris on props and such, but a delight none the less.

Having the misfortune to be struck by other boats THREE times means you are in the wrong spot Peter. Twice and I  would have been off.

The article is definitely a whinge too far, heat in the kitchen comes to mind.

Further North you are heading, well good luck, may your flat cap stay on and the ferret never move from your trousers.

Not a holiday thing for me sonny Jim, I live on it and have done for many a year.

A kelvin j3 is indeed an an engine, and you are quite right that I have no need for it any more. Want to buy it?

A Moaning Minnie piece from Peter Ponting, but what a pathetic reply from Kelvin J3!

I've boated mostly single-handed over most of the waterways system over the past many years, and yes, you do occasionally encounter selfish, arrogant behaviour by boaters, just like anywhere else.  But why moan about it? Just ignore them and get on with your own boating.

As for Kelvin J3 - is this an engine, and if so why does your boat have one if he doesn't go anywhere?   To have a boat and not go boating is a complete mystery to me.  Get yourself a holiday chalet somewhere, and sell or give your boat to someone who knows what to do with it.

Great article, this explains pretty well why I stay on my permanent mooring, my boat hasn't moved in over a year, and never will do again.
