OVER the past month there has been an increase in the number of boats being broken into across the East Anglia region. In the main only food, clothing and bedding has been taken.

IT HAS been a somewhat mixed month as regards the weather, preventing many from taking their boats out on the river. The Middle Level Commissioners have been busy carrying out repairs to the lock at Marmont Priory. They have also started work at their base, extending the wharf.

IT WAS a somewhat wet start to 2013 in the flatlands of the Fens, with the stop planks still firmly fixed in the entrance to Fox's Marina, as it had been since mid December.

THIS year has been a year of much change. This time last year the area was in drought. The falling water levels on both the upper-reaches of the Nene and the Great Ouse were of great concern to the owners of deep drafted boats, who were running aground increasingly often.

THE misfortune which befell Middle Levellers Peter and Marian Sycamore's narrowboat Gurnamore while on route from Watford back to their moorings at Bill Fen Marina on the Middle Level has once again raised the failings in the warning system that is currently in place.

Mass eviction at Great Ouse Marina
RESIDENTIAL Boat owners moored on the River Great Ouse at the Fish and Duck Marina are frantically searching for new moorings after being given notice of eviction that they must quit their berths early next year.
