Damaged swing bridge closes Macclesfield Canal

THE Macclesfield Canal is closed again, this time by the damaged Royal Oak Swing Bridge.

The barriers were struck by a vehicle turning into the short entry to the bridge off the main road, yesterday, Wednesday, making it inoperable, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Awaiting contractors

As is now usual, the repair is awaiting contractors to visit the site to asses the damage and undertake a repair.

This particular bridge has faired well over the years, giving very few problems.
