Has it gone completely crackers?

I WAS absolutely amazed to read that CaRT is not only now allowing canoeists on the aqueduct of the Llangollen Canal but also in its narrow tunnels, writes T Lang.

Has it gone completely crackers in its new desire to do all it can for canoeists, or is it intent upon getting rid of a few? For make no mistake, many of them will not have a 'bright white light' and so risk coming head-on towards a narrowboat whose steerer at the stern will have no chance whatsoever seeing someone so low in the water in a dark tunnel.

No light at the bow

For like me, when travelling through tunnels, particularly the narrow ones many boaters put all the interior lights on to illuminate the walls and the headlight shining upwards illuminating the roof so they can steer dead centre.  There is no light whatsoever at the bow of the boat at water level, where a canoeist will be.

Whoever thought of this idea has no idea whatsoever, and even if a canoeist realised the danger and yelled out, a ten tons, or most likely more, steel narrowboat, will have little chance of stopping, as to keep a straight line, I for one, will be going fairly quickly.

Someone is going to get killed, I only hope it is not a child.
