An accident waiting to happen

WE ARE currently on the Llangollen Canal, writes Graham Booth.

Approaching Chirk tunnel from the South, we we aware that a number of canoeists were weaving their way in and out of the narrowboats in what we considered was a dangerous way.

Allowed in the tunnel

I confidently told one nervous boater that it would be alright because canoeists were not allowed in tunnels. I was therefore very surprised when we got to the tunnel to see a notice saying that canoeists were not allowed in the tunnel UNLESS it was clear, and they carried a forward facing bright white light.

The notice didn't look that new so I assume that this has been the rule for sometime. I must say it seems like an accident waiting to happen to me.
