Another Leicester Riverside Festival

Published: Thursday, 07 January 2016

THERE is to be another Leicester Riverside Festival this year on the Mile Straight of the Grand Union Canal in the city.

This is a free festival and will mainly take place in Bede Park,  Western Boulevard and Castle Gardens by the side of the waterway, with of course boats along the Mile Straight, this year on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June 2016.

Highlights

This is one of Leicester's biggest free festivals featuring activities on and off the water, with highlights on the river including dragon boat racing, boats from across the region, canoe demonstrations and boat trips.

On land, the festival continues to build on its reputation for great live music by showcasing some of the best bands and artists on the main stage. There's plenty to entertain the whole family including children's activities, the Ride Leicester area, arts and crafts market, street entertainers and children's funfair plus a variety of food stalls.

Environmental focus

Once again there will be an environmental focus to the festival with the involvement of various groups, bringing together workshops and displays, helping to raise awareness of environmental issues. In addition Castle Gardens will host eco activities with the opportunity to have-a-go and learn new skills as well as providing a relaxing space to enjoy a picnic.
