Email: More influence

Published: Monday, 24 November 2014

Those of us old enough to remember the involvement of English Nature in the Pocklington Canal and it's lack of restoration will fear the latest proposals that give them more influence in the waterways in general.

The canals were built for the passage of boats. This is their reason for existence, the fact that they are also wildlife corridors is a bonus. English Nature should recognise this fact.

It should not be allowed to let their single-minded zeal take over the waterways of the UK. If CaRT abdicate their responsibilities in this area, it would be an even bigger scandal than already exists around how it conducts itself thus far.
