PLANNING permission has been given for a massive development around Icknield Port Loop on the Birmingham Canal Navigations.

The loop comes off the Birmingham Level Main Line, that at present comprises of old works, with outline planning approval granted for a high-profile regeneration scheme including over 1,000 houses, Alan Tilbury reveals.

This application for the  site that follows the loop was submitted by the Homes and Communities Agency and Canal & River Trust, who are joint landowners together with Birmingham City council.

The plans include a ten storey hotel and a superstore together with canal-side open spaces. The former stables will be turned into a community building.
