CART blotted with red tape

A WATERWAYS operative of Canal & River Trust (CART) tells us he spends his time hanging around, and can't handle the lack of work and the red tape.

I work for the Canal & River Trust, Mark Cherry writes. but after 10 weeks I can't handle the lack of work, as the Trust is blotted with red tape. While taking brick layers and people like me who have 20 years building experience only to find out they don't recognise my qualifications.

Can't do their trade

I find myself stood about for hours with carpenters with 20 years experience not even being able to do their trade.

I pass this to you in the hope the truth comes out. If you ran a building firm like this it would be bankrupt in weeks, so I finish on the 12th.  Like my dad I'm not lazy.

Obsessed with health and safety

One more thing, the company is obsessed with health and safety. Not a bad thing you might say. Truth is that it is to brain-wash employees that an accident is never the company's fault.

The only way to save your waterways is to cut half the office staff. The fat cat bosses, and contract the whole lot out before it's too late as things will only get worse. One example is a team leader called Ozi sent three to put a new gate-way in, only to find out the gate was in the wrong place, but believe me this is the tip of the iceberg.
