'Bob the gob' dies

Published: Friday, 11 November 2011

Bob Sheppard, who lived on board his narrowboat Freebird in Horninglow Basin, died last week, Ralph Freeman writes.

Bob had moored at Horninglow Basin on the Trent & Mersey Canal, for about a year, and was perhaps best described as a 'character'. He kept chickens on board, liked a beer, Formula 1 and motor bike racing.

Spoke to everyone

Bob spoke to everyone, and made it plain he, didn't like religion, politics or football; hence his local nickname 'Bob the gob'!

Arrangements for the funeral are being made by local boaters, and will be at Stapenhill Cemetery 16th November at 1-30pm . Anyone who knew Bob is welcome to attend and to give him a good send-off at the nearby Elms Public House.
