Floating homes by the Thames

CRAZY plans come and go, but the one by developer Hydro Properties will take some beating—homes built on floating pontoons by the Thames!

The developer want to build 60 floating homes at Surbiton by the riverside, including a nature reserve, but needless to report, the plan has received mixed feelings from the authorities.

Protected

The site however, that was sold by Thames Water, is protected from inappropriate development, as it is Metropolitan Open Land.

The developer says the work could enable the land to act as a 'flood mitigation cell', offering further protection to Kingston.

Nothing was mentioned on how the floating homes would fare in such flood conditions or if access would then be lost.
