Towpath rapist jailed indefinitely

A TOWPATH rapist with a history of sexual violence may never leave prison after he was sentenced to be jailed indefinitely by a judge at Leeds Crown Court.

David Taylor, 48,  dragged a woman into bushes and attacked her as she jogged on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal towpath at Burnley, then calmly walked away leaving her bloodied and bruised after his violent attack during July in what was described as every womans' nightmare, Alan Tilbury tells us.

History of sexual violence

The Court was told that the man has a history of sexual violence, including the attempted rape of a seven years old girl and indecent assault on a child under 16. It was stated that his attacks were fuelled by alcohol or drugs, and he was sexually aroused by violence when in drink.

David Taylor even admitted after his arrest that if it hadn't been  the woman he attacked it would have been the next person, and he targeted the woman after spending the day drinking on a bench beside the canal.

On canal bridge

His DNA was linked to the attack and he was caught sitting on a canal bridge in the town.

The judge ordered that a parole board must consider his release but added that it seems it may never be safe to release him.
