LIFELONG waterways enthusiast, photographer and author Harry Arnold was presented with his MBE this month by the Queen.

Harry was awarded the MBE in the last Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to the inland waterways.

Campaigner

He has been involved with many waterway activities, and an active campaigner for nearly 50 years, also being very well known as a photographer and writer, documenting the changing waterways since the late 1950's.

He is very well respected for his voluntary involvement in a broad range of aspects of the inland waterways, and has served in many roles, as a chairman, newsletter editor, vice president, publicity officer and other roles with different waterways charities, organisations and projects.

Professional involvement

His campaigns have concerned restoring heritage structures and craft and museums, and he is one of the few people combining this with  his professional involvement in the waterways, as a journalist and photographer, which knowledge he makes freely available to voluntary causes.

A very well deserved award.
