Boat pull raised £6,000

YOUNG farmers have raised over £6,000 by pulling a full length narrowboat 26 miles from Bradford on Avon to Pewsey on the Kennet & Avon Canal.

Around 25 of them used ropes to pull the boat and poles to get it around moored boats through 36 locks—including the daunting Caen Hill Flight—along the waterway over three days, raising money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust, Alan Tilbury reports.

Momentum

One of the problems was television aerials on some of the moored boats, and it was always difficult to start momentum again if the boat stopped when passing boats.

Each night members stayed in canal side pubs with those who had raised the most sponsorship money having a berth on the boat.

The group has already raised £6,200 with more money still to be collected.
