Ring to be completed

THE Droitwich Ring that was featured in narrowboatworld will soon be complete, as works starts on the final section.

The ring will connect the Severn with the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, using the now completed section of the Droitwich Barge Canal from the Severn to Droitwich, with work now started on the final section linking Droitwich to the Worcester & Birmingham Canal.

Part of the navigation will use the Salwarpe, with the picture showing its present connection with the Barge Canal at Droitwich.  The canal enters the river  though a lock behind the wall on the right

Land acquired

Work was held up as there was land that had to be acquired for the project, and that has now been secured. It is expected that the ring will be open by next May.

Access also had to be acquired, with landowners Sunbury Engineering and Droitwich Garage allowing contractors to utilise their land as a works compound at no cost, even donating parts of the property to the council to ensure the project can go ahead.
