That U boat

THE photograph of the U boat caused quite a bit of interest, and it is actually fitted-out as a U boat as the following picture shows.

It is the idea of' Cyril Howarth, who had a Liverpool boat builder build him a narrowboat shell fitted with an engine at a cost of £25,000, then spent another £25,000 for the identical U boat superstructure.

Cyril is a retired trawler man, and tells that his 'submarine' has torpedo tubes as well as a conning tower, taking 12 months to create, and caused quite a furore when it appeared on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal!
