Success with signs

WOKING Borough Council recently erected signs concerning  'Cycle Woking'  on the Basingstoke Canal, with people complaining how awful they were, as was reported in NbW.

But after complaints, Surrey County Council and Woking Borough Council  have agreed to lay the signs flat in the road/towpath so they can be read by cyclists and walkers but not seen by people who don't need to see them, writes Kathryn Dodington, remarking:

"If this proves a success then the standard will be adopted across the Basingstoke, and I'd love to see it be adopted across the entire waterway network as 'motorway' signs are out of place on an industrial heritage site in my view."
