Still rumbles on

THE aim to bring an all-girls Muslim school to the Leeds & Liverpool Canal still rumbles on, despite a refusal of planning permission.

A new planning application is expected to be submitted, by the charity Islamic Help, for permission to allow part of the Brierfield Mills complex by the side of the waterway to be used as a school.

There were many objections to a former application for a 5,000 place boarding school for Muslim girls at Burnley, which was turned down, but the new application is for just 100 to 150 girls.

The charity had purchased the massive mill, and seems undecided what to do with it, hence the new application.
