'Bodge job' getting worse

THE 'bodge job' on the towpath of the Grand Union in Loughborough that was featured in narrowboatworld earlier this month is getting more dangerous.

It was Pete Jones who told us of the way the rubble and waste of the old scrapyard had been piled up by the towpath, but now, from Pete's latest photograph it can be seen the old wood and corrugated barrier is giving way, and will eventually end on the towpath and in the waterway.

This is  South of Moor Lane Bridge in the town, with the barrier made up of recycled Armco barrier lengths driven into the earth with scrap panels of building site mesh fence in an attempt to hold back the rubble.

The weight of the rubble has pushed over the supports further, and the length of angle iron is handy for catching  the unwary user of the towpath on the head, especially in the darkness, besides being in imminent danger of collapse
