More pink poo

RANGERS on the Grand Western Canal towpath are now spraying dog faeces with pink paint to try and combat the increasing problem of owners failing to clean up after their dogs.

This is to both raise awareness of the problem which it is hoped will encourage  responsible dog owners and prevent people treading in the faeces when using the towpath.

This has been tried on other waterway towpaths with some success, with the present scheme now under way with Rangers using a spray aerosol. to  make it easier for towpath users to avoid stepping in the mess, and giving a clear indication of just how much dog mess is being left by dog owners.

It is the result of increasing complaints, particularly around Tiverton, and the council hearing of its success by other councils have decided to try the technique at the Canal.

The council believe that the majority of dog walkers that use the towpath are responsible and do clear up after their dog, but there is a significant minority who selfishly fail to take responsibility for their dog and leave its mess behind for others to tread in.
