Sunken boat raised

THE narrowboat, Helena Knowsley, that was shown sunk in the Cam at Cambridge, will soon be floating again.

Its owner, Eric Finlow-Bates, states he will use a high capacity pump to raise his boat, which was resting on the bottom of the river.

If he fails to do this, Cambridge City Council have threatened to take action  and undertake the work itself and charge the boater.

Warning

Local residents and other boaters have been warning about the slowly sinking boat for months. There is just a thin slick of oil by the boat at the moment, but fears that this could increase if the boat is not raised.

Cam Conservators posted an enforcement notice on the boat in December, but told that the owner did not respond.  The boat is one of around 70 that moor on that part of the river by Midsummer Common.
