Death mystery half solved

Published: Monday, 04 January 2010

IT HAS been reported that 20 police officers were drafted in to investigate the death of a man found on the towpath of the canal at Newport, which is now half solved.

The mystery was that the man was unknown and the circumstances surrounding his death were also unknown, but now he has been identified as Kevin Kirkland, aged 44.

He was found dying by the side of the disused Newport & Shrewsbury Canal by two walkers who immediately called for an ambulance, but he later died in hospital

The mystery now is how he came to be in that condition,  as a post-mortem examination has not established a cause of death, which is being  treated as unexplained.
