Rochdale closure extended

IN ADDITION to the closure of the Rochdale Canal due to the investigation of a leaking embankment, the closure has been extended to cover a dangerous building.

The building in Sowerby Bridge could collapse into the canal, British Waterways engineers believe, and so the stoppage has been extended to include both areas of the waterway.

This means the waterway is closed to navigation from Tuel Lock past the building, with now no access to the Rochdale beyond Sowerby Bridge Locks.
