Trent restocked after pollution

AFTER cyanide was leaked into the Trent below Stoke, it was discovered there were no living fish in a 700 metres stretch of water.

The river is now being restocked with 17,500 fish, taken from the Environment Agency's Calverton Fish Farm near Nottingham, including chub, dace, barbel and roach.

30 miles polluted

It was discovered that 30 miles of the river was found to contain cyanide and partially-treated sewage that polluted the Trent in October.

A total of 3,000 fish will be released at Walton Bridge, 5,500 at Weston, 5,000 at Shugborough and 3,500 at Wolseley Bridge.

Further restocking of the Trent and Tame rivers will reach 85,000 before Christmas.
