Grand Union to Avon link 'not viable'

THERE is to be no link built between the Grand Union and Avon after all as it was found 'not viable'.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council is not supporting the project which could have led to the navigation link between the Grand Union Canal at Warwick and the Avon at Stratford-on-Avon, Roger Fox reports.

Hight level assessment

The decision is the result of a high level assessment carried out on behalf of Stratford-on-Avon District Council and its partners Warwick District Council and the Avon Navigation Trust to establish if the link would provide the potential environmental and socio-economic impacts desired.

The final report presented showed that the economic case for an extension in terms of tourism potential, expected capital costs and environmental costs would not make it a viable option for  investment.

But there is every possibility that a footpath can be created between the two towns along the proposed route instead.
