Diverting resources

RESOURCES for the work scheduled for Holt Lock are to be diverted to repair Gloucester Lock.

This means that the work needed on Holt Lock on the Severn will now be deferred to a later date, as that on Gloucester Lock is deemed more important, Keith Gudgin reports.

Too much water leaking

It has been discovered that too much water is leaking from the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal into the river so an inspection is needed to ascertain the reason, that will need an underwater inspection by a diver.

The lock is at present closed to navigation to prevent more water loss, with work due to commence on the 28th of this month when the lock will be dewatered and the extent of the work required established.

Depend on what is found

The length of the continued closure will depend on what is found, but an interim date has been given as the 15th February.
