MP CALLS for derelict site by Leeds & Liverpool Canal to be developed.

Local MP, Graham Jones wants development at the Clayton Triangle, such as housing as it is an eyesore, Alan Tilbury reports.

Plans in the offing

Plans have been in the offing for many years to transform the derelict site, known as the Clayton Triangle, around Clayton-le-Moors.

A multi-million pound scheme, that was a large joint venture including Hyndburn Council and Canal & River Trust, could have seen new housing but despite proposals being approved by planners, they have never materialised, with Graham Jones responding:

Wider improvements to the canal

“I would like to see development such as housing on the Clayton Triangle. I also want to see wider improvements to the Leeds Liverpool canal especially at Church..

“I would also like to see old factories on the canalside demolished and the footpath improved and there are overgrown areas that need cutting.”

“I do feel we’ve been left out and the canal is popular and well-used and I want to see it improved for everyone to enjoy.”

But a spokesman for Hyndburn Council leader tells that there are not any plans for the canal currently.
