A YOUNG woman was saved from drowning in a Wolverhampton canal by a police officer.

The 21 years old woman was discovered in the Wyrley & Essington Canal at Wednesfield at 7.30am on Friday morning near the leisure complex, Keith Gudgin reports.

Getting into difficulty

It is not known how the woman came to be in the canal so early in the morning, but onlookers called the police as she was obviously getting into difficulty.

The police quickly attended, but as the woman wasn't responding to commands to come out, and the police could she her clothes were dragging her under, one took off his jacket, jumped in and dragged her to the bank where others pulled her out to safety.
