Huddersfield Narrow re-opens

Published: Monday, 29 October 2018

ENGINEERS have inspected the leaking lock on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and decided it is safe to use.

Finding running water behind the walls of Spring Gardens Lock (10E) on Friday 19th October meant that  the lock was closed to navigation, Keith Gudgin tells us.

No solution

A primary investigation the following Monday did not find a solution, so it remained closed, but a further investigation has discovered that the lock is safe to use, so is now open for navigation, but with assistance 'from the team on site'.

However it is not stated if this team is there solely to assist the very few boaters using the canal or to solve the problem of the water behind the walls that would again mean the closure of the lock.
