BOATERS are requested to avoid travelling across the South Oxford Summit if possible states Canal & River Trust.

Obviously if you cannot travel the summit then you cannot cruise the canal, so it is virtually closed.

Opening hours tightened

To make sure it gets little use, CaRT also states that 'lock opening hours are being tightened from the 10th September to further control canal demands', Keith Gudgin tells us.

Yet it is allowing the Oxford Canal Festival to continue over the week-end of the 8th and 9th September, even allowing visiting boats to use all the 48 hour moorings at the Aristotle Lane visitor mooring.

For the boats that manage to get down the Oxford Canal, they are going to have difficulty getting back up.
