What a busy waterway

YESTERDAY we moved our boat from Uplands Marina, Anderton, to the new Park Farm Marina, near Higher Shurlach, just over six miles, writes John Bamford.

Count bodies

We left Uplands at 10.15, arriving at Park Farm at 12.10. We had decided to count bodies on the towpath as we cruised idly along at 3mph maximum.

In two hours, we counted three cyclists, two pairs of dog walkers, and four other walkers, one group of three young women and one other.

At Marbury Country Park

Two of the cyclists, both pairs of dog walkers and the group of three young women were all at Marbury Country Park, close to the start of our journey, and a very popular walking area.

On the water, we passed two narrowboats and two white cruisers going in the opposite direction. Despite our slow cruise, no other boats came up behind us.

What a busy waterway

We were quite exhausted by all the greetings we shouted and waving we had to do. What a busy waterway the Trent & Mersey is.
