No canal in 'Canal Quarter'

THE plans of Stratford’s new Canal Quarter development have been unveiled at a special exhibition, but no sign of the canal!

Perhaps because this has little to do with the canal at all but is used as an excuse for building 650 new homes and business premises, Alan Tilbury reports.

No mention of canal

The developers were present at the exhibition with a local report not once referring to the actual Stratford Canal, though when the plan was first presented there was mention of a few moorings, that was named as a marina.

This seems to have been dropped from the new plan, though the name 'Canal Quarter' has been retained. So it seems that after all there will be no benefit to the waterway other than clearing up a brownfield site.
