A 13 YEARS old schoolgirl was pushed into a canal by gang of boys whilst walking home from school.

The girl was walking home along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal towpath when she was accosted by a gang of boys and pushed into the water, Alan Tilbury reports.

tescoRan off laughing

She was on the towpath by the canal near Tesco in Stalybridge, when the gang approached her from behind and without warning pushed her into the water, then ran off laughing.

She managed to scramble along in the waterway until she found an escape ladder, seen just before the bridge in the photograph, scraping her knees as she came out of the water.

Could have gone terribly wrong

Her mother told that she was lucky she was not dragged under water and drowned by the weight of her school bag on her back, it could have gone terribly wrong, and has been left traumatised and unlikely to walk along the towpath again for fear of it happening again. She told she is hoping she has not swallowed anything, it is completely filthy.

Her belongings including her bag, books, uniform and shoes were ruined and her mobile phone was damaged by its immersion in the canal

It is believed the  boys came from a nearby school, with police now investigating the attack. The girl's school is also assisting the police in their investigation.
