Last breach boat finally rescued

THE last boat left stranded when the Middlewich Branch breached was removed on Friday.
The narrowboat, The Jess Talisman, had been stranded as it was moored too near the breach that occurred on the 15th March to be floated off unlike the other trapped boats, Alan Tilbury reports.
Float them off
Those boats were removed from the drained section by the simple expediency of installing a dam then pumping water out of the Trent & Mersey Canal to float them off through Wardle Lock and to safety.
To remove the final boat, contractors had constructed a temporary road along the bed of the drained canal to bring in a crane and low loader, that was used to remove the boat and take it to a marina where it will be inspected for damage.
