'Leak' closes Leeds & Liverpool Canal

THE continuing leakage at a lock on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Blackburn has closed the waterway.

Work commenced this morning (Monday) to solve the problem with the navigation closed for two weeks until Friday 23rd March Keith Gudgin tells us.

It is the head gate cill that has failed and needs replacing, and needs two weeks to replace.

Another strange notice

However, as now seems to be normal procedure, the stoppage notice is strange, telling of two separate locks, as it reads: Starts At: Lock 55, Lock 4. Ends At: Lock 55, Lock 4.

We have been told by a boater that it is the Blackburn lock that has failed, Lock 55, and nothing to do with Lock 4.
