Woman dies in Stone boat fire

A NARROWBOAT caught fire in the ear;ly hours of this morning (Thursday) with a woman and her dog loosing their lives.

The boat, moored near the Star Inn at Stone on the Trent & Mersey Canal, caught fire around 2am this morning with the fire brigade quickly called, but alas though the woman was pulled from the boat, despite the best efforts by the fire fighters she died at the scene.

Sadly missed

The woman, Alex, was a well known continuous cruiser and will be sadly missed on the waterways. Her dog also perished in the fire.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is taking place today, with the area of towpath around the Star Inn cordoned off, with a request to avoid the area if able.
