Stratford's master plan promises more moorings

THOUGH businesses refusing to relocate out of the town held up the Stratford-on-Avon Canal Quarter plan, the council is still pushing for this massive development.

The plan, based around the Stratford Canal will provide 1,000 homes and other amenities with the fillip that more boat mooring will be provided, 'for visitors and residents alike' Martin Cox tells us.

The masterplan is to provide a Canal Quarter area of the town centre, it being described 'to regenerate a run-down industrial into a vibrant (of course!) mixed use location, with the first phase to include a 130 bed Premier hotel' as shown in the artists' impression.  It is stated that this masterplan is supportive of retaining and enhancing facilities and also enlarging them to attract additional visitors to not only the Canal Quarter but to the town itself.

Pushing for the development, Stratford Council tells us that the Canal Quarter masterplan will open up the canal as the focus of a publicly accessible open space and central asset of the site in order to make the most of the canal for public benefit.

Moorings

The existing moorings within the proposed Canal Quarter on the south-side of the waterway at Western Road will be retained and enlarged 'to attract additional visitors to not only the Canal Quarter but to the town itself'.
