Leicester Section to open tomorrow

THE Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal will reopen at noon tomorrow after four months' closure.

Such was the amount of leakage that the navigation was closed last September 'indefinitely' between Kilby Lock 30 and Kings Lock 38 with the supply reservoirs getting very near to their minimum level.

leak leicsReaching their capacity

The  healthy period of rainfall and the melting snow in December and the early part of January, means the reservoirs are now reaching their capacity allowing the section to be reopened at noon tomorrow, Friday.

However, there is still work to be done to attempt to control the leakage, and the Trust advise that there will have to be stoppages, though hopefully of short duration.

Not to 'steal' water

To help with saving water, boaters are asked to share locks were possible and not to 'steal' water by emptying a lock when there is a boat approaching on its 'full' side.
