No intimation when (or if) Leicester Section will be open

THE Canal & River Trust have given no intimation whatsoever as to the reopening of the closed Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal.

Unattended leakages between Kilby Lock and Kings Lock caused the navigation to be closed on the 27th September last year, with the notice published that the section will be closed 'indefinitely' as an 'emergency navigation closure'.

DrainedNo work done

Since then, no work at all has been done to rectify the leakages, with the level of water in pounds very low and certainly not navigable. Neither has there been any intimation when (or if) the section will reopen.

Foxton Staircase is also closed, but this is planned to be open on the 2nd March, though as a 'major attraction' it will obviously be a failure if no boats can navigate the section to and from the locks.
