One mile of Norfolk canal opened

THE North Walsham & Dilham Canal now has a mile of waterway open for navigation owing to the work of volunteers.

The North Walsham and Dilham Trust was formed in 2008 with the purpose of restoring the 14 miles long Norfolk waterway, with one mile restored and a further mile has been prepared for watering, Alan Tilbury reports.

Connects to the Ant

The canal was used for carrying produce to and from various mills in the area, and connects to the Ant. It was constructed with six broad locks, but was closed in the thirties. The trust hopes to fully restore the canal.  At one period the IWA was involved with its restoration.

A problem however could be that it has four separate owners.
