A week to move sunken boat

Published: Wednesday, 15 November 2017

THE sunken boat near Woodley Footbridge on the Peak Forest Canal has now been removed from the waterway.

It was on Monday the 6th of November that it sank blocking the navigation between Woodley Footbridge and Woodley Stone Bridge, but Canal & River Trust's own workers were unable to move it so contractors were called in.

'Removed in one day'

Notwithstanding the statement last year that 'sunken boats will be removed in one day' as specialist contractors had been engaged, this has fallen by the wayside, as boats are now taking much longer to remove.  In this case eight days.

However, that part of the Peak Forest Canal is clear, but alas the Marple Flight is not, our being told it is 'closed indefinitely'.
