A SPEEDING cyclist on the towpath of the Ouse in York struck a walker who suffered head injuries when he struck its hard surface.

The man was walking home on the towpath in the late evening when he was hit by the cyclist and knocked over near Scarborough Bridge, Alan Tilbury reports.

In serious condition

The cyclist then sped off, and it was only someone seeing the man on the towpath that the emergency services were called and the man rushed to hospital with the police telling he was badly injured and is in a serious condition.

The police are requesting that the cyclist and any witnesses to the incident come forward and contact the North Yorkshire Police.
