THE very strong winds yesterday, Tuesday, played havoc with GRP cruisers, with many losing their canopies.

We have had reports, especially from the central and northern waterways of GRP cruisers having their canopies ripped off by the force of the winds, both in marinas and moored by towpaths.

The Lancaster Canal was particularly hard hit we are told, with reports of not only these cruisers losing canopies but losing their moorings and being driven by the wind and grounded.

Narrowboats too have come loose in the very strong winds and being carried either into other boats or across the waterway, causing problems in being rescued.
