A BALANCE beam of Bagnall Lock at Alrewas on the Trent & Mersey Canal has come adrift and closed the navigation.
This occurred yesterday (Wednesday) as it was being used, with the lock now closed until engineers can investigate and plan a solution.
Very busy
Alrewas is a very busy part of the Trent & Mersey, with so many very large marinas in the area and many hire bases, with people taking advantage of the lower hire rates now the school holidays have ended.
UPDATE:
The Trust's staff will be manning the lock in the mornings for three hours between 9am and 12 noon.
