K&A still closed at Crofton

THOUGH Canal & River Trust state that the level is recovering on the summit pound of the Kennet & Avon Canal the navigation remains closed.

The flight at Crofton is still closed from lock 51 to lock 56, though the level on the summit pound is recovering slowly, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Closed on Saturday

It was on Saturday that the locks were again closed through lack of water, but a decision is being made today (Wednesday) as to whether or not the canal will reopen.

Water is pumped up from the Avon, but the two pumps have been shown to be unreliable for years, causing constant stoppages as they cannot keep the summit pound with enough water for navigation.
