Blue-green algae in the Macclesfield

A REPORT of blue-green algae has been reported on the Macclesfield Canal with boaters warned of its dangers.

The Canal & River Trust reports that the 'area however to be avoided starts at Bridge 1 and ends at Bridge 97—which is the entire canal, Keith Gudgin tells us.

The Trust also states that the location of the suspected algal bloom may change as a result of wind and water movement, but surely not over the entire waterway.

However, it is advised not to make contact with the water containing the algae that can cause stomach upsets skin or eye problems or even more serious health effects.  Dogs too should not be allowed to either swim in or drink water were the algae is present.
