A 'SPOKESMAN' for River Canal Rescue (RCR) is speaking at this year’s Flood Expo—the world’s biggest flood prevention exhibition and conference—explaining how boat salvage and recovery keeps the UK inland waterways clear, manages flood risks and supports the environment.

The two-day event, held at ExCeL London, on 27th and 28th September offers over 200 industry exhibiting suppliers, interactive debates, live demonstrations, and 80 expert-led seminars which will discuss how the latest flood research, concepts and solutions can help prepare, prevent, and manage flood water. The organisers describe its speakers as ‘the brightest minds, engineers and authorities within the flooding world’.

Joining RCR Managing Director, Stephanie Horton, will be with academics and representatives from national organisations including the Environment Agency, Flood Advisory Service and Damage Management Association, city councils, research/campaign groups and flood protection/prevention specialist firms.

RCR was invited to run a seminar after the Expo organisers heard about its work with East Riding of Yorkshire Council to remover 22 sunken boats from the Hull by September this year, supporting their strategy to manage flood risk in the local area, with Stephanie commenting:

“I’m delighted that boat salvage and recovery is being recognised as a crucial element of flood prevention; if we can keep the inland waterways clear, we can increase the water flow—particularly after heavy rain—which in turn reduces the risk of localised flooding. This is a great opportunity to share this message and show what can be achieved when working in partnership with local authorities.”

The event is free to attend when registering via the Flood Expo website. To find out more about River Canal Rescue visit www.rivercanalrescue.co.uk
